Different wood … same process

Have always said that only a woodworker would have a $100 fire in the wood stove.  Went through the same “is this worth my time” decision process on this piece of wood as I pulled it out of the firewood stack.  This is a piece of Box Elder with some black line spalting and a red color in part of the sap wood.  The red coloring is a mineral that the tree picked up.  Not all that common … I burn lots of Box Elder.  Again, both pieces have the potential to be stunning.  This one didn’t make it to the wood stove.
